We improved the AI phone assistant’s conversation flow by fixing false interruptions caused by background noise, coughs, breathing, or filler sounds like “umm.” The assistant now only pauses when the caller gives a clear interruption, such as a real word or command like “wait” or “stop.” This makes calls feel smoother, more natural, and closer to speaking with a real front desk person.
Problem
Statement
Our AI phone assistant would suddenly go silent mid sentence whenever a caller made any sound, even just background noise, a cough, or "umm." This made real conversations feel broken and unnatural, and sometimes cut off important information before it was fully said.
Possible
Solution
We rebuilt the interruption detection so the assistant only pauses for a real interruption, like an actual word or a clear "wait" or "stop." Background noise, breathing, and filler sounds no longer trigger a cutoff. Every fix was tested against real recorded calls before going live. The assistant now holds natural back and forth conversations without awkward silences or dropped words, making it feel like talking to a real front desk person instead of a machine.
